Carl Frampton vs Jamel Herring confirmed as terms are agreed for bout

Carl Frampton's world title showdown with Jamel Herring is ON.

The WBO super-featherweight clash was confirmed on Wednesday after it was revealed that terms have been agreed for the bout to take place in Belfast.

Frampton (27-2, 15 KOs) will bid to become Ireland's first-ever three-weight world champion when he takes on champion Herring (21-2, 10 KOs).

A date and venue has yet to be confirmed, with uncertainty over the timing due to the unfolding coronavirus pandemic.

June 13 had initially been mooted, with Windsor Park and the SSE Arena two potential venues.

Frampton said: “This is huge. To be the challenger fighting for a world title at home is just great.

"When it was first talked about and hinted at after I'd beaten Tyler McCreary in my last fight, I didn’t imagine it’d be in Belfast!

“I’m delighted to be fighting in my city and hopefully once the coronavirus madness has all passed, we can get it sealed and have the fight.

“It’s good to have a small bit of good news with this fight being agreed but there are more important things than boxing. People’s health is more important than me and Herring having a fight so it's important we do this right.”

Frampton won the IBF super-bantamweight world title in September 2014 when he overcame Kiko Martinez at Titanic and went on to unify against Scott Quigg in February 2016.

The Tigers Bay man then dethroned Leo Santa Cruz to become WBA featherweight world champion the same year in New York.
