Carl Frampton v Jamel Herring? WBO Champion says he's open to Jackal fight

Boxer Carl Frampton's quest to become a world champion again has been given a boost.

The North Belfast fighter was due to take on Emmanuel Dominguez in Philadelphia on Saturday night but a freak injury forced the bout's cancellation.

In an interview with ESPN, Frampton said that promoter Bob Arum believes that his quickest route to a world title is by stepping up to the super featherweight division.

Included in that division is WBO Champion Jamel Herring.

Frampton said: "Bob Arum has said that the fastest route for me to win a world title is to move to super featherweight. And a fight with Jamel Herring is something that appeals to me too, another WBO champion."

And, US-born Herring, who's record stands at 20 wins and two defeats, appeared welcome to the idea.

The 33-year-old tweeted: "I'd welcome the challenge."

He later added: "We the people of New York, would welcome him and the country of Ireland at the Garden."
