Carl Frampton shows off injured hand after 'freak accident' forces him out of Emmanuel Dominguez fight

Carl Frampton has been left ‘absolutely devastated' after a ‘freak accident' forced him to pull out of Saturday’s scheduled bout against Emmanuel Dominguez.

The 32-year-old former world champion had been due to fight Mexico's Dominguez in Philadelphia.

But Frampton said a ‘large ornament’ had fallen on his left hand in a hotel lobby, fracturing his fifth metacarpal and ruling him out of the contest.

"I'm extremely disappointed for the travelling support and for myself and for my team," Frampton said.

"I've put everything into this camp, I've been away from my amazing wife and kids for most of it and it all seems like a waste.

"Although it was out of my control, I'd like to apologise to Emmanuel, MTK Global, Top Rank, my team, my travelling support and to my wife and kids for being away so long."

The Belfast fighter posted a video on Twitter in the aftermath of the incident, showing his badly swollen hand and hotel staff removing the ornament which seemingly caused the injury.

Frampton, who has previously held world titles at super-bantamweight and featherweight, was scheduled to fight for the first time since his loss to Josh Warrington last December.
