Carl Frampton says wife Christine won't attend his fights anymore

Carl Frampton says his wife Christine will not be attending any more of his fights.

From Belfast to New York, Christine has always been present at ringside for her husband's bouts.

But after being up close for Carl's bruising defeat to Josh Warrington in Manchester 21 months ago, she has now decided to stay away from his shows.

Since then The Jackal has fought twice, beating Tyler McCreary in Las Vegas last November and then stopping Darren Traynor behind-closed-doors at York Hall during last month.

"After the Josh Warrington fight, Christine has said she can't go to another fight, and I completely understand that," Frampton told The Lockdown podcast with Philip Reynolds.

"It was a brutal fight for her to watch.

"We are husband and wife, and I can imagine if she was the boxer, and I was the husband sitting at ringside watching, I don't know how I would be able to watch her involved in a fight like that."

Frampton was on the receiving end of some punishing blows when he met IBF world featherweight champion Warrington at the Manchester Arena back in December 2019.

Rocked in the opening rounds, the 33-year-old survived an early onslaught to go the distance in one of the fights of the year.

"It was brutal, especially those first three rounds," Frampton added.

"And Christine is very stubborn and headstrong, and when she makes a decision she won't go.

"I hope to change her opinion at some point. I am approaching the end of my career and I would love to see her at one more fight at least.

"But, who knows. I understand if she doesn't want to go again.

"It's tough, but it won't change my approach to a fight. I would like her to be there again, but I understand why she doesn't want to be there.

"She doesn't want to see me getting beat up again, but hopefully that doesn't happen again."
