Carl Frampton's world title showdown with Jamel Herring 'postponed'

Carl Frampton's massive world title showdown with Jamel Herring on February 27 has been postponed, according to reports.

It has been suggested that the bout has been pushed back one month, although there has been no official comment or statement.

Well-known boxing journalist Steve Kim tweeted that the WBO world super-featherweight clash had been pushed back to give Frampton more time to allow a hand injury to heal.

Kim said: "Sources tell me that the bout between WBO 130 champion, Jamel Herring, and Carl Frampton will be moved back a month to give Frampton extra time for his hand to heal.

"March 27 is a date being floated around."

Adam Abramowitz of Saturday Night Boxing also suggested a postponement, adding that an official announcement is expected later this week.

He tweeted: "Source: Herring-Frampton is postponed due to a Frampton hand injury. They are looking at March for a rescheduled date. Expect an official announcement later this week."

Meanwhile, Herring tweeted: "Heading to the gym. Making the most of each day."

The fight was originally scheduled to take place last summer before the onset of coronavirus.

It was then believed the bout would happen in late 2020 before it was announced last month that Herring would defend his WBO crown against Frampton on February 27 in London.

Frampton had surgery on both hands in December 2019 after suffering fractures in both hands during his unanimous points win over Tyler McCreary the previous month.

The 33-year-old refractured his left hand twice in the build-up to that fight, aggravating an injury sustained in August 2019 when an ornament fell on his hand during the build-up to his scheduled fight against Emmanuel Dominguez.
