Carl Banks, David Tyree will announce Day 2 draft picks for Giants

With the 2019 NFL Draft just a few weeks away, the New York Giants are preparing for one of their most important drafts in the team history.

Time will tell what the Giants do with picks No. 6 and No. 17 in the first-round, but the larger questions are what they do from Round 2 and beyond.

Over the last few years, teams have had alumni announce some of their picks after the first round. On Thursday, it was revealed that Carl Banks and David Tyree would be announcing this year’s Giants draft selections.

Banks, who spent time with the team in the late 80’s and early 90’s, will be announcing the Giants’ second-round pick, No. 37 overall.

Banks won two Super Bowls with Big Blue during his career. He is also currently a sideline announcer during the Giants’ radio broadcast and can be found as a key contributor in the Giants pre- and post-game shows during the season.

Tyree, who will announce Big Blue’s third-round pick (No. 95 overall), was a key special teams player for most of his career. That was until he made one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history on a throw from Eli Manning in Super Bowl XLII. Tyree’s catch quickly made him one of the biggest heroes in Giants Super Bowl history.

Tyree is currently working for the team as the Director of Player Development.

In 2017, the Giants had former linebackers Jessie Armstead and Harry Carson as their honorary draft pick announcers. Last year, the Giants had Justin Tuck and Chris Canty announce the picks.

Having Giants legends like David Tyree and Carl Banks around to announce a pair of Day 2 picks certainly makes it a little more entertaining, especially if the Giants can get key contributors in the second and third rounds.
