Caring Crafters in Dumfries and Galloway gather in Springholm to help charities

Caring crafters gathered in Springholm to knit, sew and crochet for good causes.

Angela Orro, from Castle Douglas, had originally organised the get-together to make mittens and pouches for wildlife affected by fires in Australia.

But as that appeal has been inundated with donations, the kind-hearted folk put their talents to making items for DGRI and the wildlife hospital at the Barony.

Angela, who is the member pioneer at the Co-op in Castle Douglas, said: “We had between 20 and 30 people and the youngest was about 14-years-old.

“Marchbanks donated three bags of food, Tesco donated fruit and the Co-op donated tea and coffee. We had enough to feed the 5,000 and Rebecca and Pamela in the kitchen made sure everyone had a cup of tea and some food.”

The day was so popular that there are plans to hold similar get-togethers on the last Sunday of every month with the next one planned for Sunday, February 23 from 11am until 5pm.

The gatherings will be held at Springholm Memorial Hall which has been offered to Angela at a reduced rate.

Everyone is welcome and is asked to bring along a small donation for the cost of the hall and some sandwiches to be shared.

Ideas are also sought on what charities and organisations to help.
