The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre reported gave a statement that the ship had reported being “under attack by unknown armed assailants", 30 nautical miles (55 kilometers) southwest of coastal city Hodeida according to AP reports. The incident is under investigation with no further details on the vessel or damage yet.

Additionally, no group has claimed responsibility forthe attack as of Sunday afternoon. However, the area is under control of the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels and Yemen's Houthi rebels have threatened to begin attacking ships again; but there's no report of them having started carrying it out.

In the past, since the start of the Gaza war, the Houthis have targeted commercial ships with drones and missiles near the strategic waterway at the southern entrance to the Red SeaBab al-Mandab Strait multiple times. The attacks forced many shipping companies to divert vessels around Africa's Cape of Good Hope instead of using the Suez Canal.

Meanwhile, Somali pirates have been active further away in the Gulf of Aden recently as well.
