Iran warns Trump could start World War III amid Strait of Hormuz tensions

  • Iran has warned that actions by Donald Trump could "ignite the spark of World War 3" following US warnings that it was Tehran 's "last chance" for a deal, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Donald Trump claimed that the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened "literally by tomorrow" and that Iran had "begged" for ongoing negotiations, which would also address its nuclear programme.
  • Iran denied any direct negotiations with US counterparts, instead stating it is discussing a temporary plan with Oman for managing the Strait of Hormuz, which would grant Iran full control over inbound shipping.
  • A Liberian-flagged dry bulk ship, the Minoan Pioneer, was reportedly struck by a projectile near Oman's coast in the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a fire, a missing seafarer, and the crew abandoning the vessel.
  • Mohsen Rezaei, a military adviser to Iran's supreme leader, cautioned that American vessels and forces would face serious risks if the naval blockade against Iranian ports continued, reiterating that Iran would not permit a second corridor in the Strait of Hormuz.
