KOLKATA: The employee of a cargo company, who was assigned to send three packets of gold ornaments through a courier company, was arrested by Burrabazar Police on Thursday for stealing the jewellery worth Rs 5.8 lakh. The incident happened on June 15.
The accused, Manoj Yadav, originally from Banka in Bihar, was nabbed from Ananda Pally area in New Town. Cops said all the stolen gold ornaments were recovered from him.
“The complainant Surendra Kumar Yadav (36), partner of a cargo firm operating from Ramjidas Jethia Lane in Burrabazar, lodged a complaint, alleging that on the night of June 15, he had asked the accused employee to deliver the gold to a courier office on M G Road. Instead of going there, he stopped all his communication with Surendra and disappeared with the ornaments,” said an officer, adding that the ornaments were seized.
