Carer 'sick to her stomach' as creeping burglars steal her PPE

A carer said she felt "sick to her stomach" after discovering burglars had rifled through her home while she slept and attempted to steal her PPE and wallet.

Megan Corless said she woke up on Tuesday morning to find burglars had crept through her home while she and her partner were asleep.

As well as trying to steal her wallet, the 20-year-old said she woke up to find her personal protective equipment, which she needs for work, was taken and dumped outside her flat.

She said: "It's knocked me sick to my stomach that someone has been walking around me while I have been sleeping."

A spokesman for the police said officers were called to Duke Street, in St Helens, at about 6.30am on Tuesday morning.

The spokesman said CCTV and forensic enquiries are ongoing, after it was confirmed items were stolen.

Megan said: "I went to bed [and] everything was fine and secure.

"When I got up for work, at about 6.30am, my door was just wide open.

"I've then noticed that a lot of stuff in my living room and kitchen, as though it had been rummaged through and just thrown about."

Megan, who lives alone, said he partner had stayed the night.

She said it was "lucky" she wasn't on her own and had kept her valuable items in her bedroom.

She said: "Luckily all of my valuables were in my bedroom, so they didn't manage to take any expensive items.

"But my wallet had been stolen from off my microwave and my door keys.

"They even took my bag with all my PPE in, as I'm a carer. [They also took] my partner's camera and just dumped it outside the flats.

"He also tried to break his way in to next door's flat, as we can see damage all on his door and door frame where he's tried to force entry.

"I don't really know if they have got in through my bathroom window, which I didn't think was possible, or my front door because I can't see any damage on it."

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information following a burglary in St Helens reported yesterday, Tuesday 22 September.

"At around 6.30am, a burglary was reported at a home in Duke Street. Entry was gained to a flat and wallets, a camera and keys were reportedly stolen.
