Carer forced to walk to her appointments after heartless thieves steal her bike

A carer and key worker was forced to walk to her appointments helping vulnerable elderly people after her bike was stolen in Wirral.

Domiciliary home care worker Tracy Veste had left her red Raleigh bike securely - so she thought - locked up to a lamp-post on the corner of Manor Road and Withens Lane in Liscard yesterday morning.

But when she returned several hours later, the bike was gone, and the lock was still around the lamp-post after it had been cut through.

Tracy, 46, said: "I was absolutely gutted. I locked my bike up after I did three morning calls, so I could join up with another carer and drive to our next appointment in her car, but when I came back to pick my bike up at the end of my shift it was gone.

"I thought it would be safe as it had a proper lock on it, which was left still wrapped around the lamp-post.

"I mainly get around on a bike when I'm doing a job, so my heart sank when I realised it had been stolen.

"I had to walk to my next five or six appointments. When you're looking after people, you've got to do what you've got to do."

Fortunately, after the theft of the bike was shared on social media, people rallied round and Tracy obtained a new bike through the Wirral Support During Coronavirus charity.

She said: "There are some people who are lower than low and then there are people who are just amazingly kind and generous.

"I have also bought the daddy of all locks which hopefully no one will be able to break."
