Carer caught wearing work uniform to escape punishment for breaking lockdown

A carer was caught wearing her work uniform to create the impression she was working when making unnecessary journeys during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lilian Wyn Binyon was employed as a domiciliary care worker for Carelink Homecare Services Ltd, based in Llangefni, Anglesey.

On April 19 last year – while the entire UK was under strict stay-at-home rules during the pandemic – Ms Binyon wore her Carelink uniform when she travelled from her home without having a reasonable excuse for doing so.

She was also found to be over the drug-driving limit when 82mg of benzoylecgonine, a product of cocaine, was found in her blood on that occasion.

My Binyon was convicted of drug-driving following her guilty plea at Caernarfon Magistrates' Court on September 9 last year.

She also pleaded guilty to two counts of drug driving on July 21 last year at North West Wales Magistrates' Court.

These offences related to incidents on November 11, 2019, when Ms Binyon was found with 61mg of benzoylecgonine in her blood, and on January 29, 2020, when she was found with 424mg of benzoylecgonine in her blood.

A Social Care Wales fitness to practise hearing on March 1 found Ms Binyon's fitness to practice as a registered carer is impaired.

The panel imposed a removal order which will prevent Ms Binyon from working in a registered social care role in Wales.

She has the right to appeal the decision to Care Standards Wales within 28 days.
