Careless jet skier spotted recklessly riding within safety buoys in Dun Laoghaire

A careless jet skier was reprimanded by the Coast Guard after they were seen recklessly riding within safety buoys in south Dublin.

Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard were contacted by a number of concerned members of the public who spotted the jet skier at Seapoint.

The Coast Guard said there is a higher risk of swimmers being injured during the current heatwave.

They said: "Calls were received by concerned members of the public of a jet ski operating within the safety buoys at Seapoint.

"With the current warm weather, there is a lot more swimmers out enjoying the Irish waters and high risk of an incident occurring if jet skis are not aware of their responsibilities.

"A Coast Guard team met the owner of the jet ski in Dun Laoghaire harbour and advise them of the DLRCC Bye Laws, Maritime Act and safe operating procedures of using a jetski on the water."

The Bye Laws state that anyone operating a jet ski must hold a permit issued by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, which requires a €50 fee.

Jet skis may only be operated between the hours of 7.30pm and 10am and must stay 300 metres from the foreshore except when launching.
