Careers Talk: Will an arts degree get you a job?

Guests this week: Creator of the Arts Graduate Unemployment Song (10,341 hits and counting!), Lawrence Gemmell, joins us to talk about what inspired his spoof on the plight of those who study arty degrees and also to provide some musical loveliness throughout the show.

We ask Catherine Large director of external relations, at Creative & Cultural Skills, the sector skills council for design, cultural heritage, craft, music, performing arts, visual arts and literature, where are the jobs in the creative industries — and how can graduates get them?

Plus, politics and philosophy student Nathan Minnighan shares his thoughts on the employability of arts grads and tells us about his career plans.

News review: We explore why the end of summer is good news for job seekers (and what you can do to prepare yourself for recruitment drives in September), Harriet joins the recruiters, employers and nurses who support a skills passport for the health sector and, some proof that there are jobs out there, employers are struggling to fill vacancies as top graduate talent dries up.

Jobs top 10: Sticking with the theme, we've got a chart full of roles perfect for all those unemployed arts graduates including a literary administrator for The Bush Theatre and a curator of online content at the Milton Keynes Gallery.
