Care homes in England to reopen to visitors allowing residents to finally see loved ones

Residents living in care homes will finally be able to see their loved ones after the Government revealed it will reopen homes to visitors from Monday.

During the pandemic care homes have been forced to close their doors to visits due to the risk that visitors may infect elderly or unwell residents with Covid-19.

But speaking at the Downing Street press conference today (March 5) Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that visits would soon reopen.

However, there will be a limit on the number of visitors allowed at homes, with each resident only allowed to see one visitor.

The friend or family member must register as a visitor and must take a coronavirus test before being allowed on the premises. They must also wear personal protection equipment while visiting.

Mr Hancock said: "From Monday I am so pleased to say that we can reopen care homes to visits. We have put in place a really careful policy so that each care home resident can register a single care home visitor who will be tested and will wear PPE but will be able to visit.

"I know this means so much to the hundreds of thousands of people with a loved one in a care home or who live in care homes."
