Care home site set to double in size thanks to new extension

An extension to an extra care home facility for the elderly in Bishopsworth is set to almost double in size when it opens later this year.

Brunelcare, a Bristol-based charity providing housing, announced plans to extend its Waverley Gardens site last year.

It will see an additional 62 one and two bedroom apartments added to the site’s existing 66 properties specifically for older people.

The first 10 opened at the end of last year. The remaining apartments, built for the over 55s, are due to be completed in Spring 2020.

Brunelcare’s extra care housing is designed to help older people maintain their independence.

With a care team on site and a range of shared facilities, including a restaurant, hair salon, therapy room, communal lounge and computer room, tenants live in their own flat with their own front door, but with the peace of mind that they can access extra services should they need additional support.

The scheme is 100 per cent affordable and will also feature a number of shared ownership apartments - expected to be around 10 per cent.
