Residents and staff at a Hamilton care home surprised a worker with a fun hen party on Friday – after coronavirus cancelled the alternative event.
When domestic assistant Danielle Moore appeared for work at Avonbridge Care Home there were banners, balloons, streamers galore and even a cocktail bar in the garden area.
Danielle, 28, also donned a bride-to-be sash and veil with residents also wearing hen party ribbons whilst enjoying some party food and drinks, with plenty of music and dancing too.
Staff at the care home wanted to do something to cheer Danielle up after her hen party, which should have taken place with family and friends that weekend, and upcoming June wedding, were both cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Her wedding to groom Ryan Hughes, whom she met when they both worked at M&D’s Theme Park in 2016, will now take place on June 18, 2021, at Motherwell Civic Centre followed by a reception at the Thorniewood in Viewpark.
Danielle, of Motherwell, was taken by surprise by the party and said: “It was a lovely surprise to see the effort everyone made to cheer me up as I was sad that all our plans had to be cancelled.
“It was extra-special to be able to celebrate with the residents in the home as well.
“It was a hen party I will not forget.”
A spokesperson for the Avonbridge Care Home said: “The weekend would have been domestic Danielle’s hen weekend, which like everything else was cancelled. And rather than celebrating she was here working hard.
“But we won’t be defeated at Avonbridge, so what better way to celebrate, than with the best bunch of residents.
“When life throws you lemons, throw the best party and enjoy life.”
