Care home residents absolutely own isolation by playing massive game of Hungry Hippos

It's been a week of anxieties and uncertainties - but that hasn't stopped a care home in Wales making the best of a bad situation.

While there are fears all over the world due to the coronavirus outbreak, one group of OAPs found an interesting way to pass the time.

Residents and staff at Bryn Celyn Care Home, in Maesteg, decided to play Hungry Hippos, but as you've never seen it before.

The residents, who range in age between 80 and 102-years-old, sat in wheelchairs while staff pushed them into the middle of circle, where they attempted to collect coloured balls.

And what were they using to collect them?

Makeshift hungry hippos, obviously, fashioned from plastic boxes and brooms.

And the residents seemed to love it - you can hear them laughing all the way through the video (above).

General manager of Bryn Celyn, Michelle Williams, said that the residents are well aware of what’s going on around the world, with the coronavirus outbreak.

She said: "We just did it to cheer them up.

"We try to be as positive as we can - we don't want to walk around all doom and gloom.

"There's enough doom and gloom out there.

"We're just trying to keep things as normal and have fun, keep smiling and make sure our residents have fun and are safe.

"They know what's going out there."

Michelle, who's been at Bryn Celyn for 18 years, added: "The residents loved it - they were just laughing.

"You can hear the laughter in the video.

"They really enjoyed it."
