Cardiologist returns to Dublin Airport saying thanks to quick-thinking staff who saved his life

A cardiologist who saved many lives himself says staff at Dublin Airport saved his after he had a heart attack after landing in the capital.

A hero Aer Lingus worker rushed in and administered CPR on grateful Dr Farqad Alamgir after he fell ill shortly after getting off a flight from Manchester.

The staff member was quickly joined by the airport police and fire brigade before Farqad was given life-saving drugs and rushed to the Mater Hospital for emergency surgery, Dublin Live reports.

Amazingly Farqad made a full recovery and he was back visiting the team that saved him.

Speaking about the ordeal the Dr said his only memory of it all was getting off the plane before waking up in the Mater.

He said: “I remember getting off the aircraft at Dublin Airport, then the next memory I have is waking up in the Coronary Care Unit in the Mater Hospital.

“I now know that Dublin Airport’s first responders used the Lucas CPR system giving me four shocks initially, then the skills of their Advanced Paramedic team administered urgent advanced life-saving drugs via an intraosseous needle into my shin, bringing me back after 17 minutes of downtime.

“The speed of the response not only saved my life, but the resuscitation was so effective that I have not suffered any neurological or cardiac muscle damage.”

The airport’s chief fire officer Garry Keogh said the incident is a “testament to the training, professionalism and team work of the airport’s first responders”.
