Cardinals were slated to meet with DL prospect Jeffery Simmons

The Arizona Cardinals apparently have some interest in one of the most talented defensive players in the 2019 draft whose value has dropped because of a torn ACL. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals were scheduled to have Mississippi State’s Jeffery Simmons.

The visit was to be after medical rechecks in Indianapolis, which showed positive results of the MRI on his knee.

Simmons tore his ACL in February during a routine workout. Previously believed to be a top-10 pick, but with the injury it is unknown where he will land in the draft.

He possibly could be ready to play at some point during the 2019 season.

Could the Cardinals consider him with the 33rd overall pick or perhaps at the top of the third round?

He would bring some future continuity to a defensive line unit that has two 2020 free agents and two players signed through 2020.

Simmons had a combined seven sacks and 30 tackles for loss over his final two seasons with Mississippi State.
