The Arizona Cardinals played 76 defensive snaps on Sunday in their 31-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Let’s see how that playing time was divided up and what it meant.
Defensive line

Corey Peters, 54; Rodney Gunter, 54; Jonathan Bullard, 46; Zach Kerr, 22; Clinton McDonald, 16
It would appear the Cardinals played more base defensive snaps with the number of snaps for the defensive linemen. McDonald played a little more than the previous week.
Linebackers

Jordan Hicks, 76; Chandler Jones, 71; Terrell Suggs, 55; Joe Walker, 40; Haason Reddick, 36; Brooks Reed, 23; Cassius Marsh, 3
Reed had to play much more because of Marsh’s concussion and probably will play a similar number of snaps on Thursday. We see how Joe Walker’s role has increased. He now plays in base defensive sets and Reddick plays in nickel. It would appear the Cardinals were in a base 3-4 defense for 40 plays.
Defensive backs

Budda Baker, 76; Byron Murphy, 76; Patrick Peterson, 71; Jalen Thompson, 43; Tramaine Brock, 36; Deionte Thompson, 33; Kevin Peterson, 5
Patrick Peterson was replaced in the final snaps of the game by Kevin Peterson. Brock plays only in nickel now and Jalen Thompson plays in base but played three snaps in nickel.
