Cardinals use veteran salary benefit on QB Brett Hundley’s contract

Under the new collective bargaining agreement in the NFL, teams can exclude up to $1.25 million of up to two veteran player salaries from the salary cap. The Arizona Cardinals have taken advantage of this with backup quarterback Brett Hundley.

According to Over the Cap, Hundley’s new deal to return to the Cardinals for 2020 is $1.0475 million. He gets a signing bonus of $137,500 and a salary of $910,000.

His contract would typically count $1.0475 million against the salary cap, but OTC has his cap his at $887,500, a savings of $160,000 against the cap, using the veteran salary benefit.

It is not known whether there are other incentives in his contract.

The Cardinals then would have a little more than $1 million in veteran salary they can exclude from the cap.
