Cardinals to sign former Seahawks OL J.R. Sweezy to 2-year deal

The Arizona Cardinals have finally addressed their offensive line in free agency. They add a familiar face, someone they have faced many times over the years.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals will sign versatile veteran offensive lineman J.R Sweezy to a two-year contract. Locally, Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro also reports this.

Sweezy has spent almost his entire career with the Seattle Seahawks. He was drafted in the seventh round in 2012 and played four years for the Seahawks before he signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was cut after two seasons and returned to Seattle last year.

He has 78 career starts and has started every game he has appeared in since his rookie season.

He can play both guard positions but has mostly played right guard.

He will turn 30 years old next month.

He will project as a starter at one of the two guard positions for Arizona, who has struggled to keep linemen on the field.
