Cardinals to be safe with WR Christian Kirk and ankle injury

The Arizona Cardinals played in Week 5 and won without receiver Christian Kirk. Kirk suffered an ankle sprain in the team’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury was optimistic that perhaps he would be available to play in Week 6 at home against the Atlanta Falcons. On Monday when he spoke to reporters at his weekly press conference, he wouldn’t say one way or another.

“Christian has come a long really well,” Kingsbury told reporters. “I like the progress.”

He said they will push to see what he can do but they won’t unnecessarily push him to play, especially if he isn’t 100 percent.

“We’re going to try to get as much as we can out of him,” he said, “but we’re going to be safe with him.”

Kirk was not able to practice at all last week. It would be a surprise if he were able to play this week, especially with how the injury looked when it happened.

However, his participation in practice will be something to watch this week. If he doesn’t have to miss any practice, there is a chance he could be back on the field against the Falcons.
