The Arizona Cardinals have been to the Super Bowl only once and it was over a decade ago. That game is considered one of the best Super Bowls in the last 20 years.
According to Touchdown Wire’s Barry Werner, their Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers is the fifth-best in the last 20 years.
The Cardinals had the lead and the Kurt Warner storybook was going to have another chapter added to it. Then, Santonio Holmes made a great grab of a Ben Roethlisberger pass and Pittsburgh was champion.
It was one of the greatest finishes of all time. Many will say that the first three quarters were not all that compelling. However, the Larry Fitzgerald touchdown to take the lead, the Holmes catch and the final failed drive by Arizona gave it a great finish, one for the ages.
The Super Bowls ranked ahead of this one all make sense. They were all iconic games. The Giants’ win over the undefeated Patriots was fantastic. The Patriots’ win over the Seahawks with a goalline interception was unforgettable. The Rams’ win over the Titans, with Tennessee coming just inches from the goalline on the final play if the game was also historic, and the Patriots’ rally to win after being down 28-3 caps a list of some great championship games.
This is one list where the Cardinals are not slighted.
They just need to make it back.
