ST. LOUIS _ Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said he liked the matchups that were created by altering his lineup Thursday and then watched his usual bench players produce in an 11-7 win over the Dodgers at Busch Stadium.
Jose Martinez had four hits and scored three times, Matt Wieters drove in three runs and Tyler O'Neill and Jedd Gyorko also contributed as the Cards completed a four-game sweep and extended their win streak to five games.
The Dodgers knocked Michael Wacha out of the game after 3 2/3 innings, but the Cardinals rallied from a 7-4 hole with the help of wild pitches, hit batters and errors by the Dodgers.
Harrison Bader was hit twice with the bases loaded. Wild pitches led to three runs for the Cardinals, including two on one that rolled about 80 feet from home plate. And errors played a role in two scores.
Martinez, O'Neill, Gyorko and Wieters combined to go 8 for 17 with six runs scored, helping to make a winner of Giovanny Gallegos (1-0), who worked 1 1/3 innings in relief for his first career victory.
Wacha surrendered three home runs out of eight hits. But the Cardinals got him off the hook by scoring four runs in the fifth inning to capture the lead and adding two in the seventh.
Paul DeJong extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a double and a single.
The bullpen again was stellar for the Cardinals, retiring 14 hitters in a row until a two-out single in the ninth.
