Cardinals stay in same spot of 2020 draft order after win over Browns

The Arizona Cardinals ended their six-game losing streak on Sunday, a 38-24 win over the Cleveland Browns. They improved to 4-9-1 on the season. However, even with the win, it did not change their draft status.

According to the updated 2020 draft order, the Cardinals would still have the sixth overall pick in the draft if the season were to end now.

The top 10 picks would go like this:

  1. Cincinnati Bengals (1-13)
  2. New York Giants (3-11)
  3. Miami Dolphins (3-11)
  4. Washington Redskins (3-11)
  5. Detroit Lions (3-10-1)
  6. Arizona Cardinals (4-9-1)
  7. New York Jets (5-9)
  8. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-9)
  9. Los Angeles Chargers (5-9)
  10. Denver Broncos (5-9)

What sort of player could they land if they ended up with the sixth overall pick?

Here are the last few picks at No. 6 in the draft.

  • The New York Giants selected quarterback Daniel Jones sixth overall this year.
  • The Indianapolis Colts selected guard Quenton Nelson sixth overall in 2018.
  • Safety Jamal Adams was the pick at No. 6 by the New York Jets in 2017.
  • The sixth pick in 2016 was tackle Ronnie Stanley, selected by the Baltimore Ravens.
  • In 2015, defensive lineman Leonard Williams was taken sixth overall by the New York Jets.
  • The Atlanta Falcons drafted tackle Jake Matthews sixth overall in 2014.
  • The Cleveland Browns drafted pass rusher Barkevious Mingo sixth overall in 2013.

This year’s draft will be interesting. Of the five teams ahead of the Cardinals, two already have a quarterback they drafted in the first round in 2019. The Cardinals could be in position to acquire more picks by moving down a little if a quarterback a team wants is still available.

It also looks like it the Cardinals likely will end up with the sixth pick unless something weird happens in the final two games.
