Cardinals starting offensive line looks set with trade, free agent signing

The Arizona Cardinals have addressed two positions on the offensive line in the offseason and it looks like the starting lineup is set. They have agreed to a trade to acquire tackle Marcus Gilbert from the Pittsburgh Steelers and have now reportedly agreed to sign veteran guard J.R. Sweezy.

If the Cardinals add other linemen, they will likely be for depth.

For now, here is what the starting lineup looks like:

LT: D.J. Humphries

LG: Justin Pugh

C: Mason Cole (or A.Q. Shipley)

RG: J.R. Sweezy

RT: Marcus Gilbert

Sweezy has played mostly right guard in his career and, according to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro, he will likely play there for the Cardinals.

Pugh played right guard for Arizona last year before he landed on injured reserve but played his best for the New York Giants when he played left guard.

The two could obviously play either side.

That group should be an upgrade over who they played last season. Of course, that is if they can stay healthy, something that has been a problem the last couple of years.

Just last year, the Cardinals used 10 different starting offensive lines.

People wanted the Cardinals to address their offensive line. They went out and did just that. Whether the moves end up paying off is still too far into the future to know.
