Cardinals sign P Ryan Winslow to practice squad as insurance for Andy Lee’s injury

Arizona Cardinals punter Andy Lee suffered a hip flexor injury in the second half of the team’s 38-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. His status for their next game is unknown.

To address his potential inability to practice, the Cardinals announced Tuesday punter Ryan Winslow was signed to the practice squad.

Winslow spent the offseason and preseason with the team and averaged 46.9 yards per punt in the preseason.

Winslow entered the league as an undrafted rookie in 2018 with the Chicago Bear but was cut before the start of the season.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said they “were still working through” Lee’s injury on Monday when he met with the media. Players were off Tuesday and will practice on Wednesday.

In addition to handling punting duties, Lee is the holder for field goals and extra points. Getting Winslow back will give him reps with kicker Zane Gonzalez in case Lee is unable to play on Sunday.

Friday’s final injury report will tell us more and then Saturday will tell us even more. If there is any doubt about Lee’s availability, Winslow will get promoted to the active roster on Saturday.
