Cardinals sign OL before final preseason game, release Terrell McClain

The Arizona Cardinals announced a pair of roster moves Tuesday. One was expected, as the release of veteran Terrell McClain was reported Monday evening. The other was the addition of an offensive lineman heading into the Cardinals’ preseason finale against the Denver Broncos on Thursday.

McClain, entering his ninth season in the league, signed with the team originally in May. He will get a head start in signing with a new team, as all must cut down their rosters to 53 players by Saturday afternoon.

They added former AAF offensive lineman Jacob Ohnesorge. He played for the Arizona Hotshots and spent the 2018 preseason with the Dallas Cowboys after entering the league as an undrafted rookie.

He played collegiately at South Dakota State and was the 2017 Rimington Award winner as the nation’s top center for the FCS, DII, DIII and NAIA divisions. Ohnesorge was a three-time team captain and a four-year starter at South Dakota State and appeared in 53 consecutive games to finish his college career.

He will likely be an emergency backup on Thursday. Neither Mason Cole nor A.Q. Shipley are expected to play. Lamont Gaillard and Coleman Shelton will likely split time at center, while Ohnesorge is probably for emergencies only.
