Cardinals secondary suddenly looks stable, certain for 2019

With the signing of veteran cornerback Robert Alford to a three-year contract, their defensive backfield appears to be in order for 2019.

The starters are all but set.

Patrick Peterson and Alford will start at cornerback. At safety, they have Antoine Bethea, D.J. Swearinger and Budda Baker, with Baker likely manning the slot.

By just taking care of the second cornerback position, the entire secondary looks better.

Arizona no longer has a starting position to worry about in free agency or the draft. They can look for depth and development. Health, of course, will factor in, but the back end of the defense looks pretty settled for next season.

And at cornerback, it looks set for at least two seasons, as Peterson is signed through 2020 and Alford through 2021. Safety will be a position of need, as both Swearinger and Bethea are only under contract through 2019.

But in their quest to turn things around in 2019, the secondary appears pretty set.
