Cardinals RT Marcus Gilbert ruled out for Week 2

The Arizona Cardinals will not have their starting right tackle for at least one more week. Tackle Marcus Gilbert was ruled out of their Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens, coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters Monday at his press conference.

Gilbert suffered a knee injury in practice on Thursday and missed the season opener. Justin Murray, acquired on a waiver claim the previous weekend, started in his place.

It would appear Murray will get his second straight start. This time, though, he will get a full week of practice. The Cardinals had to cram the game plan for him starting Thursday night.

Kingsbury was pleased with how Murray played in Gilbert’s place.

Gilbert’s durability continues to be a concern. Kingsbury will not speak about the severity of the knee injury or even whether there was an MRI done. When asked whether Gilbert would need any sort of surgery, Kingsbury only said, “we’re still working through that.” But the veteran tackle only appeared in 12 games in 2017 and 2018 combined.
