MIAMI _ Of all the things the Cardinals haven't been able to rely on this season, the one thing they have done without out fail and usually without lag is score runs.
The Cardinals zoomed ahead into the National League lead for runs scored and leapfrogged the Marlins in the wild-card race with a 11-6 rout Friday night at Marlins Park. The score was closer than the game at times appeared as the Cardinals had a six-run fifth inning to pull away for what once was an eight-run lead.
That burst was enough to make a winner of Mike Leake, though he allowed six runs.
Jeremy Hazelbaker and Tommy Pham homered for the Cardinals.
Kolten Wong came a home run shy of the cycle. The three position players who started and batted in the sixth, seventh, and eighth spot in the order cobined to score seven runs, reach base nine times, and drive home five runs.
Yadier Molina also had three hits and two runs scored.
The Cardinals moved a full game ahead of the Marlins in the race for the league's second wild-card berth. The two teams entered the evening game tied with 55-47 records.
