Cardinals roll past Mets, 10-2, behind Mikolas' strong outing

ST. LOUIS _ Miles Mikolas pitched eight innings, allowing four hits, and Jose Martinez drove in three runs and collected three hits as the Cardinals rolled to a 10-2 win over the Mets at Busch Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Mikolas (2-1) held the Mets without a hit until the fourth and didn't allow a run until the seventh when the game was well in hand for the Cards.

The Cardinals jumped on substitute starter Chris Flexen for three runs in the second inning and two in the third as he filled in for injured Jacob deGrom.

Marcell Ozuna walked three times and scored each time, Paul DeJong had a pair of doubles and Paul Goldschmidt hit his eighth home run to back Mikolas.

Martinez increased his batting average to .333 with a single in the second, an RBI single in the third and a two-run double in the sixth.

Mikolas also helped himself at the plate with a single to score two runs in the second after a passed ball scored the first St. Louis run.

Matt Carpenter left the game in the seventh inning with a left knee contusion.
