Cardinals rise slightly in new training camp power rankings

The Arizona Cardinals begin training camp this week and there is a new set of power rankings as they and the rest of the league amp up towards the preseason and a new year of football. Arizona has made a lot of changes and there is increasing optimism for the season.

This shows in USA TODAY’s new training camp power rankings. Arizona moved up a spot, which is good, but they still sit in the bottom five of the league. They just happen to now be the best of the bottom five at No. 28.

When you change out coaching staff and starting quarterback, things typically don’t go well initially … though intrigue factor is much higher in desert than Denver.

Whether or not they are good, they should be exciting to watch early of while Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray are unleashed on the league, while Chandler Jones and Terrell Suggs pair up to be a formidable pass-rushing duo.

Does anyone expect them to compete for the postseason? Not really, but the bar isn’t set high. They were a historically bad team in 2018 and have a rookie head coach and rookie quarterback. Better won’t take much.

What they should be is exciting with the firepower of the new offensive system and a quarterback who is great at passing and running.

The ranking is fair and is trending in the right direction.
