Cardinals remain No. 3 in 2024 draft order but Texans’ pick moves down

The Arizona Cardinals lost on Sunday in Week 15, which officially eliminated them from playoff contention. Having won only three games, it was an inevitability.

What fans are really focusing on is the 2024 NFL draft and where they will select. After games in Week 15, according to Tankathon on Tuesday after the conclusion of Week 15 games, the Cardinals still have the third overall pick.

Here is what the top 10 looks like:

  1. Chicago Bears (from 2-12 Carolina Panthers)
  2. New England Patriots, 3-11 (.521 strength of schedule)
  3. Arizona Cardinals, 3-11 (.559)
  4. Washington Commanders, 4-10 (.513)
  5. Chicago Bears, 5-9 (.466)
  6. New York Giants, 5-9 (.508)
  7. New York Jets, 5-9 (.508)
  8. Los Angeles Chargers, 5-9 (.521)
  9. Tennessee Titans, 5-9 (.534)
  10. Atlanta Falcons, 6-8 (.424)

The Cardinals appear locked into a top-four pick. If they win a game and the Commanders lose out, the Commanders would move ahead of them because of a weaker strength of schedule.

But if the Patriots win a game and the Cardinals don’t, they could move up to No. 2.

The Cardinals also own the first-round pick of the Houston Texans. They beat the Tennessee Titans 19-16 in overtime, improving to 8-6. That pick moved down from the 16th selection to No. 17 overall this week.

The Texans are tied with the Jaguars and Colts at 8-6 for the best record in the AFC South but lose tiebreakers and actually are not even a wild card.

It is far better for the Cardinals if Houston does not make the playoffs.
