Cardinals release OL Jeremy Vujnovich, promote TE Darrell Daniels

The Arizona Cardinals, who had two injured offensive linemen for the season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, have decreased the number of linemen they will have.

The team announced Saturday offensive lineman Jeremy Vujnovich was released and tight end Darrell Daniels was promoted to the active roster.

Vujnovich was acquired on a waiver claim after the 2018 preseason and appeared in five games, starting twice, before he landed on injured reserve.

Daniels will be the third tight end on the roster, while there will be only eight healthy offensive linemen. Tackle Marcus Gilbert is out with a knee injury, as is rookie center/guard Lamont Gaillard.

The promotion of Daniels could mean an injury or an illness to one of the other two tight ends on the roster — Charles Clay and Maxx Williams. It could also mean there was a team interested in signing Daniels to its active roster and the Cardinals wanted to avoid that.

We will see what the moves mean on Sunday when the team kicks off a 1:25 p.m. Arizona time.
