Cardinals quickly becoming a hometown team

Over the last two seasons, the Arizona Cardinals have begun a bit of a trend. They are collecting hometown players on the roster. Here is what has happened in the last year.

  • They drafted receiver Christian Kirk, who played high school ball in Scottsdale.
  • They re-signed running back D.J. Foster, who was a teammate of Kirk’s in high school. Not only did he play high school ball here, he also played for Arizona State.
  • They signed outside linebacker Brooks Reed, who played high school ball in Tucson and collegiately at the University of Arizona.
  • They agreed to sign outside linebacker Terrell Suggs. He played high school in Chandler and at Arizona State.
  • They agreed to sign quarterback Brett Hundley, who played high school ball in Chandler before going to UCLA.

They also have kicker Zane Gonzalez they signed last year. He played at Arizona State, although he is originally from Texas.

Who knows if all of this is simply coincidental or if there is a purpose to it?

If anything, it is something fun to point to and potentially use to target free agent player and draft picks.
