Cardinals place 6 players on PUP before start of training camp

The Arizona Cardinals announced a few roster moves on Saturday as they are preparing for the start of training camp this next week. They placed six players on the preseason physically unable to perform list. They will hold a spot on the 90-man roster but are unable to practice while on that list.

All of them are dealing with some sort of injury.

The six players are:

  • LB Dante Booker (back)
  • TE Charles Clay (knee)
  • OL Max Garcia (knee)
  • DL Robert Nkemdiche (knee)
  • OLB Brooks Reed (hip)
  • CB Brandon Williams (back)

Nkemdiche and Garcia had ACL injuries last year. Garcia suffered his earlier in the 2018 season but Nkemdiche hurt his in December. Their landing on PUP is no surprise.

The other injuries were not previously disclosed during the offseason, so it is not known how serious they are. However, if they were to have a setback and were unable to play at the start of the season, if they did not begin training camp on PUP, they could not be added to the list.

What should also be noted is the absence of several players, meaning they are 100 percent cleared for football. Receiver Christian Kirk broke his foot and missed the final four games of the season is not on PUP. Neither is tackle Korey Cunningham, who also broke his foot late in the season. Center A.Q. Shipley and running back D.J. Foster both tore their ACL in training camp/preseason and are fully cleared to practice.

Veterans report to camp on July 24 and the team’s first practice will be July 25.
