Third baseman Jhonny Peralta's thumb has put him on the sidelines again. He strained a ligament in his left thumb in a plate appearance on Sunday, sat out Monday's game and on Tuesday was put on the 15-day disabled list.
Peralta missed the first 57 games of the season with a left thumb ligament surgery before returning on June 7. He has played in 30 games, moving to third base from shortstop so that the Cardinals could keep Aledmys Diaz in the lineup. He was hitting .221 with five home runs and 13 RBIs. He hit his 199th career home run on Saturday.
That was one of several roster moves on Tuesday. The Cardinals called up outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker and right-handed pitcher Miguel Socolovich from Memphis (both will be available tonight) and designated catcher Michael McKenry for assignment.
Hazelbaker was on the Cardinals Opening Day roster and played in 61 games at all three outfield positions. He hit .250 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs before being sent to Memphis after the game on June 15. In his time with the Cardinals, he hit three pinch-hit home runs. He played in 13 games at Memphis, hitting .325 with a home run and 11 RBI.
