Cardinals OL coach says run will be big part of the offense

The offense new Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury ran in college is known as being pass-heavy. A quarterback will throw the ball 50-plus times a game in it.

That might certainly happen in some games, but the Cardinals insist they will run the ball and will be a physical team.

“People are going to be surprised by the amount that we do run the ball,” said offensive line coach Sean Kugler via the team site. “It’s a big part of this offense, in addition to the screen game. It’s not just throwing it every down, and there’s going to be a lot of physicality involved in this offense.”

For those worried about David Johnson’s usage in the new offense, it sounds like he will be a big part.

And that should be the case. The Cardinals paid him a lot of money to be the cornerstone of the offense. He should be used that way.

Certainly, there will be games where the Cardinals throw the ball a lot. But Johnson better be able to have 1,100 or more yards as a runner in 2019.
