Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Brett Toth has a unique story. He was claimed by the Cardinals off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles and maintains two careers. One is that of an NFL player trying to make the roster.
He also has a commitment with the U.S. Army.
He initially committed to five years of active dirty with the Army but was given an exception as President Trump announced those wanting to play professional sports could do so and have their commitment reduced to two years.
According to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss, who spent a day with him back in March, Toth is an instructor at Arizona State University’s Army ROTC program.
Toth must spend five days a week in the offseason and Tuesdays during the regular season (when players have the day off), he works at ASU.
His two-year commitment expired May 23 but he extended that back out to the original five-year commitment.
Toth spent most of last season on the non-football injury list but was activated just prior to the end of the season so the coaches could evaluate him for the future.
He will battle for a roster spot as a backup on the offensive line in 2020.
