The Arizona Cardinals have struggled to keep their offensive line healthy the last three years. Three of their five projected starters — D.J. Humphries, Justin Pugh and Marcus Gilbert — have reputations as being injury-prone.
They hope to change those fortunes, but according to Humphries, not a single player in the room is thinking about whether or not he gets hurt or not this year.
“I always believe in us,” he said on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. “I just know what the intentions of everybody in that room are, and nobody in that room is out here like, ‘I just don’t want to get hurt this year.’ Everybody in that room, when they step out on the grass, they’re trying to eff somebody up.”
The starting lineup is a capable and talented lineup. Humphries is athletic. Pugh had his best season as a left guard. Mason Cole showed promise last season as a rookie starter who played every single snap. J.R. Sweezy has played a lot of football. Marcus Gilbert was once called by his offensive coordinator the best right tackle in football.
If they stay healthy, things will be great. That’s the big if.
At least we know that the players aren’t just trying to stay healthy. They want to do some damage to opponents, which is the mentality they have to have.
