Cardinals now have dead money against cap for 3 QBs not on roster

The Arizona Cardinals keep adding to their dead money against the salary cap. The latest addition to it was as a result of the trade that sent 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen to the Miami Dolphins.

Rosen, whose contract was going to count approximately $4 million against the salary cap in 2019, now will count roughly $8.1 million.

Combined with the $5 million in dead money from releasing Sam Bradford and $3 million from releasing Mike Glennon, the Cardinals now carry more than $16 million in dead money against the cap for three quarterbacks not on their roster.

The dead money against the cap will count double what the quarterbacks on the roster will in 2019. Charles Kanoff makes the league minimum if he makes the team. Backup Brett Hundley’s deal is worth $1.875 million. No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray’s eventual contract will count about $6 million against the cap.

General manager Steve Keim has said multiple times how dead money is bad, yet he continues to have the Cardinals among the league leaders almost yearly in dead money.
