Cardinals near bottom of new CBS Sports power rankings

The Arizona Cardinals appear to be better than they were in 2018, a season in which they went 3-13, had the league’s worst offense, had the league’s worst rushing defense and fired their head coach after only one year.

However, the perception is that they still are not comparatively good, despite solid additions to the team in the NFL draft.

In CBS Sports’ new offseason power rankings, the Cardinals are not at the bottom but they aren’t far from it. They come in at No. 30, ahead of only the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins.

Starting a rookie quarterback takes time for a team to grow. But they had a heck of a draft. Kyler Murray will have growing pains, despite the notion he will walk in and be a star.

The offensive line has been retooled with veterans Marcus Gilbert and J.R. Sweezy. They get players back from injury. They have a new coach in Kliff Kingsbury and a new, exciting QB in Kyler Murray.

That isn’t enough to put them among teams who should be competitive in 2019 but it gets them going in the right direction for now.
