Cardinals near bottom, but not at bottom, of new power rankings

How much have the Arizona Cardinals improved as a result of their work in the offseason? National perception says they are a better team but in terms of where they rank with other teams, not much has changed.

They entered the offseason as the worst team in the league. According to ESPN’s latest power rankings following the draft, they have improved, but it is only one spot. They now rank 31st overall.

The ranking comes from their football power index ratings.

They are projected to win 5.5 games and have a 4.3-percent chance at the playoffs. They are better than only the Miami Dolphins.

Despite the low ranking, expectations are that the offense is much better. They have a coach known for offenses that pile up yards and points. They have a reloaded wide receiver room and they have an exciting rookie quarterback in Kyler Murray.

5.5 wins don’t sound like much improvement and moving from last to second-to-last isn’t exactly great progress, but just going from a three-win team that was terrible offensively to a six-win team who is exciting offensively is actually big progress.
