Cardinals move up in power rankings despite loss to Saints

The Arizona Cardinals, now 3-4-1 on the season, continue to slowly climb weekly power rankings. In USA TODAY’s Week 9 power rankings, they even moved up despite a 31-9 loss on the road t the New Orleans Saints.

After moving up to No. 26 last week, they creep up one slot to No. 25.

You know your running back depth is in serious jeopardy when you have a losing record but have to trade for a guy (Kenyan Drake) who will be a free agent after eight more games.

It is true. David Johnson has an ankle injury that will likely keep him out of their game on Thursday night. Backup Chase Edmonds suffered a hamstring injury that could keep him out multiple games. D.J. Foster landed on injured reserve.

The Cardinals still put up a good fight for the first two-and-a-half quarters against the Saints, No. 2 in these rankings. The move up for the Cardinals could be seen as a quality loss.

They will have another tough test. They host the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Thursday. They rank No. 3 in this week’s power rankings.

As for the rest of the division, the Seattle Seahawks moved up from 12th to 10th overall, while the Los Angeles Rams climbed two spots to No. 11.
