Cardinals' Molina appeals one-game suspension, will play tonight

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has been suspended for one game by Major League Baseball for bumping umpire Tim Timmons during an argument in Sunday's game with Arizona, but he will be in Tuesday night's lineup as he has filed an appeal.

Molina, who went after Arizona manager Torey Lovullo when Lovullo referred to him in unprintable language, can play, pending the resolution of his appeal.

Lovullo, who served his one-game suspension Tuesday night in San Francisco, was ejected from the game for protesting balls and strikes and then blamed his and his team's discontent on Molina "framing" pitches. Timmons did not eject Molina.

First baseman Jose Martinez, who suffered an Achilles contusion in the ninth inning of Monday night's game, and center fielder Tommy Pham both are out of the lineup for the first time this season Tuesday.

Matt Carpenter will start at first base for the first time this season, with Yairo Munoz going to third. Pham, one for his last 18, will be replaced in center field by Harrison Bader, who will hit sixth. Paul DeJong will move to second in the order behind Dexter Fowler.

Carlos Martinez, who blanked Milwaukee for 8 1/3 innings last Wednesday, will take a 1.98 career earned average into his outing against Milwaukee.
