Cardinals listed among free agency’s losers for Brett Hundley signing

With the first moves of free agency in the books, the natural thing to do is grade the teams and declare winners and losers. Who are the winners of free agency? Who are the losers?

According to sister site Touchdown Wire’s Barry Werner, the Cardinals are among the league’s losers, citing specifically the signing of former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Brett Hundley.

If last season’s performance by No. 1 pick Josh Rosen (10th overall) wasn’t sad enough, adding another former Bruin QB, Brett Hundley, who did nothing in Green Bay or Seattle is worse. Trouble’s bruin if you are Rosen or Hundley come draft time.

Hundley’s addition was not meant to add much in terms of on-field play, as he is expected to be a backup. He brings knowledge of the spread offense. He has a close relationship with Rosen. He has starting experience.

Calling the Cardinals losers for their signing of a backup quarterback likely means they haven’t done too badly for themselves in free agency.

Could they be called losers because they added injury-prone players and a 36-year-old? Certainly. But they shouldn’t be losers because they added a backup quarterback.

If Hundley ends up having to start, then it is a different story.
